April-May 2014: An Update

Hello again my friends!  Apologies for the long delay in posting, but much has been happening.

It’s been about a month since the move and we’re now living in the H.E.A.R.T. village in central Florida adjusting to a more simple lifestyle.  We’re currently living a plywood house with no electricity, no running water, and (probably the biggest adjustment) no air conditioning.  The transition has not been the easiest but overall things have been going well and God is opening my eyes to many things I hadn’t realized I would struggle with.

Perhaps the biggest struggle I’ve been having is with a feeling of rejection.  We moved here knowing that this is where we are supposed to be as we prepare for Uganda and we left South Carolina with the support of our friends and church family there.  As we’ve begun support raising, however, we were faced with the realization that our expectation of being financially supported in Africa by our church was premature.  When we got the message that they wouldn’t do it, I was hurt and it’s really been hard for me to deal with.  Now I’ve been in business and understand budgets so I’m not upset if the funds aren’t there, but it left a feeling of being rejected by the body that my family and I have loved and served for several years.  Please pray for me to be humble to allow Jesus to teach me and for my eyes to be open to understand what I need to be learning through it.

In other news, my internship is going well; I’m learning a lot, reading more and more, and building relationships with some awesome children of God.  We’ve begun attending a Messianic Jewish synagogue which is fantastic, and my wife has been able to start helping with the training of a horse that just arrived in the village.  I’m also in the planning stages of writing my first book Life & Doctrine: Practical Theology for a Complicated World (working title).

Anywho, I know this isn’t the kind of stuff I usually post, but I wanted to give you all an update on what God has been doing in my life lately and what’s going on.  Now that we’re getting a little more situated I’m hoping to post on a more regular basis, and as always feel free to let me know how I can be praying for you.
