“He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’” – Matthew 16:15
If someone were to walk up to you right now and ask you, “What do you think about Jesus?” what would you say? Take a minute and really think about it. Don’t think about what the right Christian answer should be. What do you actually think and believe about Jesus?
Now, what if the question was “Do you think Jesus is God?” Do you really believe that He is God? Or do you suppose that He was a good teacher and a moral person? Do you really believe that He died for the sins of the world? Do you really believe that He rose from the dead on the third day? Do you really believe He is coming again?
Within Christianity these questions seem almost redundant but for many of us they are assumed instead of proclaimed. We assume that we all Christians believe in the basic tenets of the faith but in truth many of us have our logical arguments of why we don’t believe in certain aspects so that we don’t sound like the crazy religious people that no one likes or respects.
Take time today to contend with yourself and with God about who Jesus is, and who you say that He is. Pray for an increase in faith, for a personal understanding of who He is, and for the boldness to speak of Jesus openly and without fear.
