“We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” – Hebrews 2:1 (NIV)
Some of us believe that it may be possible for a Christian to lose his/her salvation. Others of us do not. No matter where you stand on that issue, we all must acknowledge that we each run the risk of falling away from the faith. We are all, as sinful men and women, prone to fear, doubt, and wander toward worldly temptations.
It is the Holy Spirit that transforms us when we invite Him, but He will not force it upon you. It is a conscious decision that we each must make to follow Jesus. Every moment of every day is an opportunity for each of us to walk deeper in relationship with Him, or to drift away.
Take time to consider times when you drifted and when you’ve remained faithful. Pray for peace and focus for your day and for God to remind you as you go to “pay more careful attention” to Him in every situation.
